Where to place thermal paste on the GPU?

My GPU is always overheating and causing my computer to crash when i play games on higher graphics (LoL,Diablo, etc.) so i thought some thermal paste would help but I'm really insecure where to place it
I got a HD radeon 5700 series graphic card

If this is "the wrong way" the fix the problem then please help me because this is really annoying and haven't found anything helpful yet on the internet!!!

I assume you have taken the cooler off?

You just wipe off the old paste, apply a rice size drop on the GPU die (the shiny silver bit, square shaped), and put the cooler back on.

Dead center of the GPU, its pretty obvious what it is, you will have to take the cooler off.

This is my 7970 when I was putting on my water-block. Your card wont look exactly like this, but I imagine somewhat similar.

Make sure to re-apply any thermal pads that are on the VRAM (the black squares) or VRM's. Those are just as important to cool as the GPU, and unlike the GPU you cant monitor how hot they are, so get it right.
