New computer will boot up but i don't get picture on my monitor

I just bought a new computer from ibuypower it will boot up just fine but i don't get picture on the monitor, i connected the vga from the monitor to the mother board, i have a msi z87 g41 pc mate mother board. do i need to connect the monitor the video card? if it helps i have an amd radeon 7950hd video card.

if you are not connecting the HD 7950 Video card to the motherboard , just connect the VGA Cable from the Monitor to the Motherboard

if the HD 7950 Video card is connected to the motherboard , then you have to connect the VGA cable from the monitor to the Video card ( HD 7950 )

that's how you should be fine .
