How Do I Add a Password to Internal Toshiba Hard Drive?

I have an internal 250gb 2.5" Toshiba hard drive and got a enclosure to convert it into a external hard drive. I installed in into the enclosure and would like to add a password to it (Plug it in and it asks for password to access the files). How may I go about doing so?

  1. If your motherboard has a TPM module you can use the native Windows BitLocker:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/c61f2a12-8ae6-4957-b031-97b4d762cf31

If no TPM module exists there are tons of free disk encryption apps. Two examples would be VeraCrypt or TrueCrypt:

    http://www.truecrypt.org/
