i3 4340 vs athlon ii x4 760k be. what gpu do you advise to pair with either of these cpu??

basically, the question says it all.

haswell has an improvement of about 10% over ivy, but this cpu comes with 200mhz more than its predecessor, the i3 3240 @ 3.4ghz. so the performance increase is higher.

compared to the athlon, the i3 has better single core performance, due to its higher IPC, has HT, a small L3 cache and lower power consumption.

the amd counterpart has a higher clock speed (3.8ghz vs 3.6ghz), 4 cores... and i can't think of anything else to be honest. maybe, being it a 4 core cpu, it'll handle a bit better all those games with huge maps and an infinite number of players lol...

there are not many benchmarks out there. has anyone laid their hands on the previous generations of these cpus and can tell what pro and cons are of one over the other?

last but not least, which gpu could be the best match for either? i was thinking about the hd7870. what about you? is the 760 ti too much?

EDIT: i almost forgot, the 760k be has an unlocked multiplier, which will shorten the performance gap, if any.

EDIT2: one more thing, i would like to play at 2560x1080, yeah I love those 21:9 monitors.. would a 7870 handle the resolution? I don't mean max out, just make it pleasing and smooth..

More about 4340 athlon 760k gpu advise pair cpu
  1. keep in mind that athlon ii x4 760k = AMD APU without GPU
the labelled it athlon and create confusion

i think the4 best pair will be 7870 and fx 6300

i know but I'm looking for a good and cheap mini itx build and there are no mini itx am3+ boards....
  4. Then go for an i3-3220 + GTX 660 (shorter boards). AMD CPUs draw too much power and create too much heat for ITX builds.
  5. if you have yet to purchase, get a i5 4570 or i3 4130. And a 7870(r9 270/270x). the 760ti is a great card but it is fairly expensive, whilist the 270 is in the $180s
  6. If you havent bought anything yet hen the new AMD APU's perform very well with or without a graphics card

Cpu wise, there as fast as last gen at a lower speed and wattage, gpu wise there near the level of a 7750/7730, they perform well with and without a gpu for a apu, but i still recommend going dedicated.
  8. Thank you all for your replies, but I opted for a slightly more performing rig :D I bought a 4820k and a gtx 770...
  9. Since when athlon ii x4 760k needs am3+ board?! doing research for a similar build and seen so much baloney on this forum...i`m building a steam box/htpc with 760k and a gtx 750 ti and there are plenty FM2/FM2+ mATX/mITX boards out there.

He misunderstand,he was saying that the 6300 and 7870 paired well but there is no am3 itx boards, a variable he missed.ps my 750 ti near perfect. Though I think a 770 would be nice
