Hello and good day to you all you.

I've been looking everywhere to find a tool where I can compare my old PSU to a new 1 to see if the newer 1 will be compatible to my system.

It seems that this site provides the best hardware answers, so I thought I might as well ask, seeing as I'll probably get a good response.

Here are the exact details of my old PSU (taken from the PSU itself):

Model: LC-B300AT | ATX12V(KY-400ATX)

Input: 115VAC/230VAC | 7.5A/5A | 60Hz/50Hz

Output: 300W AUX

Output: 115VAC/230VAC | 2.0A/1.0A

Here is the link to the cheapest PSU that I hope may work with my old system:

http://www.prophecy.co.za/thermaltake-litepower-350w-power-supply-p-115490.html

For those of you who don't want to follow the link, here are the raw details:

AC INPUT:

Input Voltage: 230V
Input Current: 230Vac/4Amax
Frequency: 50Hz

DC OUTPUT: +3.3V +5V +12V1 +12V2 -12V +5Vsb
Max Output Current: 18A 14A 8A 13A 0.5A 2.5A
Max Output Power 120W 252W 6W 12.5W

The +3.3V & +5V & +12V1 & +12V2 combined output power shall not exceed 285W.

I'm not really sure how to interpret the details as I've never switched out the PSU before.

I wouldn't mind buying and testing it, but this PC seems like a concoction of a variety of components and it's quite old, so I don't want to keep buying and testing.

The PC is a: P4 3.0GHz, running on 2x512mb of DDR400 RAM. The last time the PSU packed up, the repair guy said that we shouldn't even bother to replace the PSU, but for a price of R200 (around $20) it will do what I need it to do for basic tasks.

Can anybody assist in determining if this PSU might work?

PS. i'm in South Africa, so I can't buy from NewEgg or Ebay.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Well the PC keeps tripping when I switch it on, so I don't know how I can access the PC specs.

It loads upto the point of the dual-boot, then I here this kind of clicking sound and it gives a "Read Error". I checked on the Ubuntu forums about this read error, they say it's most likely a power issue.

Do you have any techniques to get it working with a faulty PSU?

This is going to sound strange, but I followed what another guy on the ubuntu forums said and simply disconnected and reconnected all the power connections in the tower. Miraculously, it now runs.

I think the motherboard itself is ancient too. Anything built for DDR400 must over 8 years old atleast.

Thanks for the help blackbird.
