Hey guys, I'm helping my cousin out trying to find the right GPU.
He is looking to play games such as; Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45, Total War: Rome II (every other Total War as well), Amnesia, Slender man, BF4/BF3 (if he can). And other Steam games He wants to play on Medium to High settings.
He is planning on spending around or below $150.
Want to use Newegg, Amazon (whichever has the better deal)
Location: Maryland, USA
The problems are that his PC only has a 250 watt power supply and he isn't planning on upgrading it. He wants a good GPU that will last a while and will be able to play future upcoming games. His PC currently has integrated ATI Radeon 4200 graphics and he has to run on low to medium settings on his Total War games.
I know it's going to be hard to find a good GPU since we are limited with options and what we can do...

This is the PC we are going to be dealing with: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02153182&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=4196095#N363

Get AMD HD7770 GHZ Edition or the AMD HD7790

they need 80 watts only and will work fine with your 250 watts PSU.

Are you kidding me? Seriously? There is no way that OP can run a HD7770 or a HD7790 in his rig. OP get your cousin to buy a CX430 PSU first then get a HD7770. Don't listen to Lance he doesn't even realize that 250w PSU's don't come with 6 pin pci express connectors which both the HD7770 and HD7790 require.

yes it does wok. do your Watt Math yourself and don't follow what they say on the BOX.

what they say on the BOX is in the SAFE side , that is , they Assume you have like 6 hard disks ,and all Slots used , with USB port used all together.

you should calculate part by part the WATT .. I did this a lot and it is SAFE.

and YES 80 WATTS VGA cards WORK in 250 watts PSU System .

and he DOES NOT need the 6 Pin plug , he can USE the Adapter that comes with the CARD.

and the 6 pins will draw like 10 watts only from the power supply , the rest will come from the PCIe BUS

IT WILL WORK

I can use a 780 GTX in a 450WATTS PSU system as well.

here is my Proof that HD 7770 works in 250 watts PSU

total System Power

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1873/10/

HD7770 gaming : 207 WATTS , BURN IN : 228

HD7770 GHZ (black edition) , Gaming 217 Watts , Burn in : 230 Watts

and for the 6 pin power, use the Adapte that comes with the card.

the AMD CPU is only 90 WATTS ...
