Hello everyone. I have recently built a brand new setup. After about 3 weeks of gaming and general awesomeness I downloaded Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 on Steam. I have noticed that my GPU and or PSU makes this high pitched whining noise only in the menu of this game. When you click on "Quit Game" the whine gets louder.

I have downloaded 3DMark to test the card and there was absolutely no whining and when I played Far Cry 3, Dota 2 both games made no such noise.

As my system is so new I can easily take back any part that is causing this noise as it does bug me.

GPU: Asus GTX780
PSU: Corsair HX 1050 v2

I would love to know whether or not the whine is coming from my GPU or my PSU and whether or not this whine is normal as it is a worrying sound.

Any help or advice would be great.
Cheers.

What CPU do you have? Could you run integrated graphics and test a few games for coil whine? Or you could try another PSU. Maybe even borrow a GPU from a friend. I had a similar issue and it turned out to be my PSU making the noise, though 780's have a history of coil whine.

Download fraps and watch the framerate while whining. You might try enabling VSYNC

Sometimes excessive framerate can cause whine.

Sorry I should have put all that info on the original post.
CPU: Intel Core i7 4770K Haswell 3.5GHz 8MB
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H100i CPU Cooler
MOBO: Asus Z87-DELUXE LGA1150 ATX Motherboard
Case: Cooler Master Storm Stryker Full Tower Case
Memory: Corsair 16GB Kit (2x8GB) DDR3 Vengeance C9 1600MHz
HDD: Caviar Black 2 TB
SSD: OCZ 256 GB
PSU: Corsair HX1050v2 1050W 80PLUS Gold Semi-Modular Power Supply
GPU: Asus GeForce GTX780 902M/6008M 3GB GDDR5 2xDVI/HDMI/DP

I will do separate tests tonight but I was just seeing if it was just the GPU or just the PSU so I can get them replaced asap.

This is noise is a recent occurrence and nothing has been changed/moved etc in my setup to cause it.

Thanks for the reply. I will download it and test it tonight. Wouldn't the whine occur during 3DMark's Firestrike Extreme as I thought that was very intense on GPU's? My GTX780 could only do 8-9 fps in the combined graphics test yet did not make any whining noise.

All my others games do not cause it to whine, even Far Cry 3 which is hard on the GPU as well.

By "it" I mean GPU or PSU (whichever one is making the noise)

You could try 3DMarl 11 too and you'll have higher framerates while still stressing the GPU. Again, using integrated graphics could give you an answer pretty quickly, maybe try stressing the CPU (and thus, PSU) in Prime95 too, which would indicate that the PSU is whining.

Sounds like a plan. It was 3DMark 11 that I was using to test the GPU.
I will look into Prime95 later on. Thanks for the help.
