SATA (Serial ATA) is the interface that connects your hard drive to your system and helps control and manage them.

The difference between the 2 interfaces Sata II(older) and Sata III is speed, Sata II has a max of 3Gbit/s and Sata II has a max of 6Gbit/s.

The only devices you'll see a difference with are SSDs, regular platter type HDs and optical drives can't even fill the SATA II bandwidth (even if sold as SATA III)
