Hello All,

Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I'm currently running 2 Geforce GTX 460's (1GB) in SLI. I've been happy with the performance aside from certain titles (Battlefield 3, COH:2 and some others) not being able to be ran at the highest of settings without severely low frames. I'm running on a 24-inch monitor at 1920x1080. I also drive a secondary 17-inch monitor for misc applications.

I've been looking into the Geforce GTX 760 but I'm just unsure if it would be the best choice. One article I read said it would be around a 66% performance increase over my current setup. Unfortunately i don't have the link to that article. I was also in a toss up between the 2GB/4GB versions. My budget does play a factor which is why I was leaning towards the 760. I don't plan to upgrade to a larger monitor with a higher resolution any time soon and I know that more VRAM is beneficial in driving higher resolutions but I was also under the impression that the new game titles coming out are supposed to make more use of onboard VRAM. I could be mistaken though.

So please, any suggestions are more than welcome. I will say that I generally prefer Nvidia but I'm open to any suggestions. Thank you again for your time.

Current System Specs:

Intel i7-2600k standard base speed, forgot what that is, no overclocking performed.
ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
16GB Corsair DDR3 1600 (2x8GB)
2 Geforce GTX 460 SLI
1000Watt Thermaltake PSU (specific model forgotten)

The 760 is defeintly a really good option at the moment, and will defeintly be better then ur current gtx 460sli.
currently no game requires more then 2gb if you play on 1080p, but if in the future a game will require 3GB for example, people with 2gb or less will seriously suffer.
its hard to tell, i would go for the 2gb one if i were you, but if u have some extra $ and wanna future proff u pc a bit more, then the 4gb one is for you,.

The difference in the RAM may not be worth the nicklel if you only plan to run a single monitor at high rez: the RAM buffer of 2 GB will be sufficient for a 1080p. Only go with the 4 GB model if you plan to add monitors or go to a higher rez model.

Right now Nvidia is the hardware leader at that price range, but you can also look for bargains in the 7970 and 7950 AMD offerings. While I prefer Nvidia myself, the performance of the AMD 7900 line is impressive.

Thank you for your replies DjDafiDak and chesteracorgi.

The only thing I noticed with the only 4GB version I can find on Newegg, which is from EVGA has a slightly less base/turbo clock speed. I'm guessing that's because the other cards are all "OC" versions, so they've been tuned up already. I haven't been able to find any other 4GB versions of the 760 besides the EVGA.

It was suggested by a user on some other forums that if I went with the 2GB version but future games ate up a lot of the onboard VRAM, to turn off AA, SSAO, etc to compensate.

As much as I'd like to, I don't think I'll be able to upgrade my monitor for increased size and/or resoltition any time soon.

The 2GB ver is around $249 and the 4GB version is $289

Thanks for all of your replies. Does anyone have an idea of how much of an increase over the SLI'ed 460's I'd see? Would it be wiser to get a 770 if I can gather some additional funds? My original thought was a 760 would be some kind of increase and then eventually get another and SLI them together.

Hi byogamingpc. Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately the 770 is just out of my budget right now. I pulled the trigger or rather clicked the mouse and got the 760. Can't wait for it to arrive. I'll definitely be getting another one down the line. Fortunately my co-worker is going to purchase my 460's so that will additionally offset some of the cost of the 760. Thank you all for your replies, much appreciated.
