Problem:
Need to upgrade GPU to meet needs on a budget.

Backstory (ignore if TLDR)
I decided to build a new pc for myself and was buying piece by piece on a humble enlisted paycheck, which was going well, until we found out my wife and I were having twins. Due to lack of future "extra spending money" I quickly slapped in parts to get it running. I tell that back story to explain the mix-matched quality of hardware in my rig.

Hardware:
ASrock Z77 Extreme6
i5-3570k OC'd to 4.3ghz (around 36C under normal load)
2x4gb Kingston HyperX 1600 MHz DDR3
Geforce GT 430
OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W
20" LED HP monitor (Have a 27" LED I'd like to, but can't really use yet)
Antec twelvehundred v3 all air cooled with stock fan on PCU

Ok so I've been having some issues lately with running games. This is my every use tower, which I like to play games on when I'm not working. I know the GPU is outdated and crappy, but I wanted to get some advise. I can maybe talk the wife into letting me spend ~$200-300. What would people recommend for best improvement? Obviously I can run SLI, but my PSU is low wattage. RAM sometimes gets bogged down and I have 2 open DIMM slots, but it's not too often it's an issue. I figured the best thing would be to upgrade my GPU with a single unit and maybe SLI later if needed. I play Diablo 3, starcraft, SWTOR, and LOL, but would like to get into the higher graphic based games. All these games I play on barely higher than minimum graphics to minimize clipping. What would you guys recommend as upgrades? I'm open to all options that make sense.

I would go for the GTX 760. It's $260 and it currently the best card on the market for price/performance. It's a great card, running a little better than the 7950 and almost on a par with the 670. The EVGA ACX cooler gets my vote, too.

The GTX760 would be perfect for you. Honestly it's the most high-end GPU that makes sense in terms of value and it's in a whole other league from your current card.
