I've just bought a stock dx2400 to build my first gaming spec computer and I was wondering if the low profile gt 5450 would fit into the bracket or if I need new brackets? Thanks

New brackets?

You have the PCI slot and it runs across the motherboard, what brackets are you referring to?

This is your case right?

I had one similar which was a HP, you should be able to fit a card just shy of the length of your motherboard (although the cable management in that picture is horrendous).

I'd say an 8 inch card max, anything less low profile should be easy, I got a HD 7850 (8.2") in my mini tower.

Ideally you want to open the side panel and measure to double check any obstructions, once you have your size you have your answer.

The 5450 card is in no way a gaming card. From the looks of things, that is a mini tower system you got with a 300 watt power supply. That's enough to run a 6670 or a 7750. Geting a 5450 for any "gaming" outside of Flash games or old games is a waste of money. Spending another $20-30 on a real video card is a better idea.

Do you mean the nVida 770? No, that card is way too high end for the system you got, the power supply is too weak and the CPUs available will bottleneck the card. The RAM on the card has nothing to do with the RAM on the computer. The i3 CPU will not fit in the system, you have the wrong socket type on the motherboard. It will also need DDR3 RAM so any RAM you already have in the system can't be used with the new motherboard and CPU if wan to use the i3.

If you want to use that HP dx2400 you will need to use about a Radeon 7750 to match the power suppy and CPU.
