This week I built my first gaming system (<£500):

AMD FX-6300
XFX 7870 DD GHz edition
ASrocks 960 GM U3S3
8 GB 1600 MHz Crucial Ballistix Sport (2x4GB)
2TB
Zalman T1 case
Chieftec Smart series 600W PSU
Fans:
2 x 120mm Cooler Master Silent Fan 120 SI1
2 x 92mm Coolink SWiF2-920
1 x Zalman TM1 standard 92 mm fan

My grahics card is reached 100 degrees C yesterday after trying it with Skyrim on Ultra setting after about 1hr of gameplay. I have 5 fans installed (1x92mm back exhaust, 2x92mm side exhaust, 1x 120mm front, and a 1x120mm top exhaust)

Can anyone help me with suggestions on how to reduce the GPU temperature? Do I need better fans? Are the GPU fans at fault?

N.B Because of the motherboard design the space between the PSU and the GPU is only bout 2 inches, will this affect the cooling?

I'll be thankful for any help you can give me

Thanks very much

You can RMA it, or replace that thermal compound and reseat the cooler properly, if you feel comfortable with such a task.

Having a custom fan profile in AfterBurner, helps a lot too.

I bought it from AriaPC and was thinking about RMA. I wasn't sure if overheating was sufficient to RMA the GPU though. I have msi afterburner and already set the fan to 100%. I must admit the temp was lower when I tested it with OCCT reaching around 80 derees maximum after 20 mins.

Wow - those kind of temps with 100% fan is an issue indeed.

I can't imagine a suffocative enough case that would cause those temps - it must a be a bad seating cooler. If you haven't done anything funny with the GPU's voltage and frequences (BIOS editing and such), RMA tha damn thing :)
