Hey, what's up guys? I've been thinking of building my first computer for a while now, but really never made up my mind. However, recently my dinosaur desktop has suffered a hard drive failure, and I guess it's was think to upgrade anyways since I'm going to UCR in the fall. (YAY!) So if you guys wouldn't mind helping a newbie college scrub out, please post a video editing workstation build for me at the budget of $3000. Thanks!

Approximate Purchase Date: Beginning of August

Budget Range: $3,000 (After Rebate, with everything included)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Video/Sound editing, Multitasking, Visual Basics, Gaming, surfing the web

Are you buying a monitor: Yes (Must be included in the build)

Parts to Upgrade: Nothing, starting from scratch

Do you need to buy OS: Nope, I have Windows 8 OS disc already

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg; but doesn't really matter, I just don't want to purchase from 10 different websites

Location: Los Angeles

Parts Preferences: Reliable :)

Overclocking: Ehh, I don't really want to because I may screw up my CPU and GPU, but it depends on price

SLI or Crossfire: Again, i don't really want to screw things up, but will do if it is the best BANG for BUCK!

Your Monitor Resolution: 5760 x 1080 (For maximum Multitasking!) but 2 monitors are also fine

Additional Comments: I'd prefer 2 or 3 monitors, as stated above

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: My major in college will require to have lots of "hands on" exercises with video editing and such. Basically, it will be my workstation. Lastly, I will game a bit on this computer once in a while just to blow off steam.

-Overclockable. If you don't feel comfortable overclocking, you can always remove the cpu cooler and wait until you learn more.
-i7 and 16gb of ram are ideal for video editing.
-2tb HDD for mass storage, 256gb SSD for OS/games/programs.
-GTX 770 maxes a lot of games, 4gb of VRAM for your triple monitor set-up.
-Define R4 is a silent case and provides great airflow. Also has a nice window to look inside.
-High quality 750w psu to allow for future SLI as well as overclocking.
-Triple 1080p IPS monitors for clear quality.

Check this this build It is $3000 build bit it is best.
I chose Hexa core cpu which helps more than any other cpu in video editing or all HD work.

For SSD Id take smaller SSD samsung pro too. Because it do have better write speeds.
But this cheaper is maybe good enough. Other video card can be added like GTX 650 or some like that. (if need for that)
Not for SLI. Just run some programs in own monitor.
Here some explaining. Bigger SSD is for OS and programs. This must be 256GB or bigger. Smaller SSD is for cashing.
This is used by video editing program cache. (if your program can use this) if not then lose it and get other 256GB SSD to RAID 0. 2T HDD to RAID 0 here you load material that you are going to edit. And when you are done then edited material is going to 3T drive. One thing you need more is usb-3 card reader if your camera use remove able drive. This makes loading much faster. Id get bigger monitors but budget is tight so must settle for smaller ones.
Then you just need maybe couple 120-140mm fans. And one 120mm to floor of that Faractal case to cool down the video card. This way you can drop rpm of that video cards fans and make work more silent way.
Trow me some PM if you have anything to ask. Video vard you can down grade to GTX 650 or 660. Video editing do not need so much video card. But you did want 3 monitors so did put in GTX 770. Maybe 760 is enough.

For video editing lots of graphics used my friend. so must need gtx 770 sli or single 4gb for 2-3 monitors.
not enough PSU and too much hdd.
for gtx 770 4gb minimum 750w PSU needed.
3tb is enough storage.

Sorry to tell you but, Video editing do not need more than GTX 650. no real benefit over that.
PSU is enough. one HDD takes about 5w so? SSD takes 1w
How come you need 750w for a one GTX 770?!? You can drive two with that much PSU. :wahoo:
One video card like GTX 770 takes about 200w so 550w is plenty. Much more than you really need.

I think you chose 4gb version GPU so check wattage again my friend.
One thing more Rosewill is not good PSU maker. Choose from Corsair, Sesonic or XFX 650w PSU for single card.
I hope it helps.
Thank you.

Rosewill capstone and TACHYON are much better than corsair. You really do not know anything about PSU? About rosewill psu anyway ^^
read couple test and learn something.

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Rosewill-CAPSTONE-550M-Power-Supply-Review/1584
Try to find better if you can. I think you really can NOT.

You do not know much of video editing.. but still you need to try put my build down. Why? This is your first lesson.
Try to remember next time. You cant do this. Right anyway. Each has their opinion. :)
Components returns rates (5)
- Antec 0.7% (as against 1.0%)
- Seasonic 1.2% (as against 1.3%)
- CoolerMaster 1.4% (as against 1.0%)
- Akasa 1.8% (as against 1.6%)
- Thermaltake 1.9% (as against 2.3%)
- Corsair 2.3% (as against 1.4%)
- Fortron / FSP Group 4.9% (as against 2.0%) (0.6% without the Blue Storm Bronze 500)
Both corsair and seasonic make more psu returns than rosewill. Rosewill return rates are under 1% all over the world.
So now you can think what brand makes better psu.

Hahaha lol
You need some personal experience my friend. You are just talking what you read on internet. Bit you know why its return rate is lower because it's selling rate is lower also. Only some people buy like these PSUs who don't know about it much my friend.
And i m not trying to put ur build down. I m saying what is my personal experience.
But that's your mind you can think what u getting understand.
Thank you.

Actually they are not. Rosewill and Super Flower are most sold units in EU. My personal experience is based on over 10 years of using my own builds. For now I work my own firm. And I build all of our computers. We do promotional films and short films most of time. Some times longer ones. This is sure thing and it will work just fine.
I did build to my frend just couple months ago build like that. And 550w is enough for that. he do have the super flower PSU but same thing. Only difference is GPU and new GTX 760 and 770 will take less wattage than old ones.

almost no difference between samsung 840 and pro, other than life-span, however ssds have such long life spans that it will be outdated before it breaks (the samsung 840 has lifespan of 15 years), gave you a great cooler, and a motherboard that gives you great overclocking insight plus wireless connectivity plus 4 way sli support see the newegg description thttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131974&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=, all three monitors and two graphics gtx 770s, so you can game on all three screens, a top of the range blue ray drive for all your sound editing, 4tb high performance wd carviar black hdd for mass storage, 16gb of ram for editing in a 2 stick format so you can always upgrade to 32 gb
