Well have a dell Inspiron 570 and i bought a gtx 550 ti 1gb. I know i need to upgrade the PSU to a 450 or 500 watt. I bought one (not branded) http://www.ebay.com/itm/220596017408?ssPageName=STRK:ME...
It ended up not having the right plug for my motherboard so i'm in the process of returning it. What PSU should i get. i need a 24 pin connector and a 4 pin connector for the motherboard 2 SATA connectors for my hard drive and disc drive
and 2 female ends of a molex plug for the Geforce NVIDEA GTX 550 TI 1GB

that should have all you need, and CORSAIR is a really good PSU company, never buy unbranded psu's like the one you did, you might aswell catch pikachu and let him use lightning attacks on ur pc.

Yes, if you wanna be 100% sure just click the "details" tab in newegg, and check the connectors link at the bottom yourself.

That's also a 80 plus bronze certified psu, google "80 plus cpu" to learn what that means.

The cable is there... , theres alot of "crosair 500 watt psus" not just one model.
No worries it had a 24 pin cable for ur motherboard, and a 4 pin one for ur cpu.

OK, I can see that you are trying to save money anywhere you can, but PSU is the essential to all your PC needs, getting no name one might lead to making your PC a nice door step, or even catching a fire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nd266kl0rs0

So, look here for PSU recommendations http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx
GeForce GTX 550 Ti - 24A and a 400W PSU minimum http://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/power-requirements-...

It is always a good idea to get stronger PSU, so 500 watt Corsair is great idea, look at my signature, you see some similarities.

Now, more interesting question, since it is not part of this thread, I just ask - what CPU you have, because GTX550 TI would not make a difference by itself if you have slow Athlon CPU, so?

Anything else I can help you with?

For the past 5 hours Toms servers were no good, it appears that problem is solved.

Well, you have the strongest Athlon Inspiron 570 can support, the stronger one would be only Phenom II x4 965 BE, which can be overclocked to match today i3 CPU - so you are OK in CPU department, unless you want more power.

well this is gonna be suprising but im gonna build a PC later this year hopefully. This would be my first one. i have a question in terms of a motherboard being compatible with a certain CPU i want to keep the one i have for my next build will it be ok if I put my current CPU in this motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... the MSI Z87-G41

If you want more power using the same parts - it would be much easier to put in Phenom 965 BE as I did, what good will it do to save old processor?
You can build new PC from scratch - much better idea overall.
