I am planning to get a new notebook and I have a question related to its GPU. It is nVidia GeForce GT 740M and I found out that it is the newer but less powerful version based on the Kepler GK208. I’ll just add that the CPU is an i5-3230M (2.6 - 3.0GHz, 3MB cache). Here are some screenshots I found on the net:

I am not really familiar with those scores so I will let the conclusion to you.

So my question is: Will I be able to run GTA IV on medium settings? It is an old game but the fact that it was badly ported makes it a resource hungry monster. Based on my unprofessional comparison between my desktop 9600GT (which can run it) and the 740M GK208, I have the bad feeling that it won’t make it. Am I wrong? I really hope so :D

Yep!No problem.

That's great! It seems I underrated it, probably because the bus width scared me at first. You have my curisoty now and I should ask you if you can name me a game title which will take this GPU to the limit? It is good knowing its abilities and boundaries.

Yeah, nVidia did that to be more energy efficient but they made the clock 170MHz higher to compensate the smaller bus width
