Hi there, this is my first post so please be gentle :)

Here's my problem:

My computer is:

Intel i7 2700
8GB Ram
Asrock p67pro
Palit gtx460 768mb
Corsair gs700 PSU
1TB HD

It's roughly all a year old as I built it myself.

Let me know if there is anything else you need to know. :)

Anyways, my computer is fine MOST of the time, but then of recent, it starts freezing where I can't move my mouse for a few seconds and the audio often sounds like it's crashing. (but only on the first crash or hang or freeze or whatever you want to call it :) )

From the point of the first crash, the mouse then either goes invisible, changes icon to the highlighter. Then it keeps freezing every few minutes, or few seconds, (it's been getting worse of recent)

When I open task manager, the screen goes black for maybe 2 seconds until it works, then again when I close it, it also does this when I open a program and it asks me to run it and when I click on yes, it goes black for a couple of seconds in between commands.

It doesn't do it everytime I use my PC and seems random, but last night it was unusable as it would freeze every few seconds. :(

I've done a RAM memtest and it didn't find any errors, I've done a bad sectors scan on my HD and it completed, it didn't say anything from then so I don't know if it fixed them or even found any errors. :\
I've also done a GPU memtest and it didn't find any errors either. I've also done a registry clean and it cleaned stuff up, but it has done this since I've performed that so I'm guessing it didn't help. Nothing makes any more noise than normal eg Hard Drive, but I haven't done any temp tests if it matters. :)

Does this sound like anything obvious to you?
I'm panicking a bit in case it's my HD or anything serious as I want to replace it if I have to before It becomes a real problem and just breaks on me.
I thought I'd ask here and this website has always been very useful to me before, and thought I would turn here. :)

I built this pc myself but I'm not a huge tech wizard unfortunately, meaning I don't really know anything about bios and figures etc, so apologies if I act like a noob. :)

Cheers.
Mike.

I've not used Event Viewer bizzarely, but from what I can see, there doesn't seem to be any errors, the only thing that appears (which I don't think it relevant but may be) are the odd nvidia errors, the only one that stands out would be:

The description for Event ID 14 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

\Device\Video5
!06d7(2648)

but apart from that, the other nvidia errors are just:

The NVIDIA Update Service Daemon service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not start due to a logon failure.

AND...

The nvUpdatusService service was unable to log on as .\UpdatusUser with the currently configured password due to the following error:
Logon failure: the specified account password has expired.

To ensure that the service is configured properly, use the Services snap-in in Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

I just cleaned out my pc as it had a reasonably large amount of dust inside, I checked the temps before and after and they went down a few notches, but everything idles under 45c.

Could dust be the problem? or is that a bit farfetched?
It's difficult to test anything out as the freezing seems random and haven't had any today.

That NVidia problem should be addressed by reinstalling the graphics drivers. It could explain the hanging you experienced.

I just froze up and this is the error I just got from event viewer, I'm guessing it's driver related then? I've reinstalled and changed drivers etc, but it doesn't appear to have made any difference, I'll try uninstalling then reinstalling the drivers again just to make sure.
