Looking to switch from using my tv to an actual gaming monitor. However, I can't decide between 1440p OR 120hz/3D. The 2 monitors that I am considering are the VG278H and the PB278Q.

I have been doing research online for the past week or so and I have come across some people that say they can't really tell between 1080p/1440p, and then I have read that some people don't really notice a difference between 60hz/120hz.

1) Which feature will give me the biggest improvement for gaming?

2) How well would my ASUS GTX680 OC be able to perform with each of these monitors listed below?

3) Or should I just go with the VS278Q-P(1080p/60hz) and save roughly $250?

Games that I play currently: Borderlands 2, Dishonored, DCUO, Team Fortress 2, Fallout: New Vegas, Saints Row: The Third, Metro: LL, and L4D2

i recently switched from a 60 hz monitor to a 144 hz( asus vg248qe) and the difference was huge. i could never go back to the lower refresh rate. though to make use of this you would need a system that can push above 60 hz. i also like not haveing to ever worry about v-sync again.

on the flip side 1440p will definitely put a larger strain on your system so some settings will most likely have to be turned down. there is also the image smear from the lower refresh+ ips combo.

my vote would be for the higher refresh if its for gaming, ips if not

GET BOTH, Yamakasi Catleap 2b, or Overlord Tempest X270OC. 1440p@120hz. some even go higher than that
I have the Yamakasi, My Cousin has the Tempest, they are both AMAZING screens. Zero imput lag, and no noticeable motion blur.
this is me coming from 3 acer 120hz 1080p monitors, the orange base 23.6'' ones.

OH and before I forget, if you want one of those screens i would recommend the Overlord more because it has a better base on it, and its sold through a company in the US so you get a nice warranty on it.

other than that they are both the same LG made screen's that are built for the $1,000 apple cinimaview or whatever they're called monitors.

And if you really look into getting one, MAKE SURE, its an "A" panel and not an "A-" or "B"

Neither mine or my cousins had any dead pixels, but a friend of mine got an A- and he has about 11 dead pixels.

120hz.net Sells the Yamakasi 2b (so does ebay, make sure its a Catleap 2b)
Overlordcomputer.com Sells the Tempest

its always better with high hz 120 or 144 monitor than high resolution, the graphical power needed is about the same between 120fps 1080p and 60fps 1440p. but the thing is that when you get a game that have more demanding grafics you can just lower resolution on you big high ress monitor, but you can play at 60fps on you 120hz monitor no problem, dont buy a 27" 120hz+ monitor btw.....
