I've been building my gaming PCs for close to 14 years and this problem has me stumped. I upgraded my PC to a Haswell 4670K with an ASUS Z87-K mobo and GSkill TridentX 2400 (F3-2400C9D) RAM. My other components carried over from my previous rig are a nVidia GTX 660, Intel SSD, a couple of 1TB HDDs, and a BFG 550W PSU. Nothing is overclocked -- all stock speeds.

I clean installed Windows 7 and nVidia driver 320.49 WHQL and then fired up PlanetSide 2 and it crashes to desktop in a few minutes. I ran Prime95 for an hour -- no errors and thermals OK. I then ran Windows and Ubuntu CD memory tests for an hour -- no errors. I went into the BIOS and dropped the memory frequency down to 1333 to be sure. I fired up PlanetSide 2 and it crashes to desktop in a couple minutes. I ran Company of Heroes 2 and Civilization V and it crashes to desktop. At this point I swapped out the RAM from my old machine -- and re-ran the games, still crashes to desktop. I then swapped out a spare 460W PSU -- and ran the games -- crashes to desktop. If I stay in Windows and just stress test everything is OK. Any ideas as to what to try next? Is my 550W PSU not enough for Haswell? Everything was fine with my previous Ivy Bridge 3570k.
Thanks!

corrupted game files? i had a crashing issue with one of my pcs that almost every origin and steam game would not play as they were always corrupted and repairing never worked. My issue was bad ram, when i say u ran windows and ubuntu memory tests u mean something like memtest for the ram?

Also was ur game installed transfered over from the old build through one of the 1tb drives? id try to reinstall them or repair

This seems to be a ram issue, but with the ram u used before that worked is kind of weird,

wouldnt be the power supply as if it ran before and hasewell did increase its tdp but shouldnt cause issues, and if the 460 powered on and caused the same issue wouldnt be that

Honestly, I'm not suspecting hardware, due to the lack of a BSOD. I'm leaning toward drivers. Try the previous WHQL release and see if that clears things up for you.

If games were copied over, I'd do a clean re-install; might be a few config options that aren't playing nice with the new CPU.

Thanks for the replies. I am using the same game installs (steam) from the previous rig so I'll try doing clean installs. I'll try previous WHQL drivers too and see if that helps.

It seems that I have a driver issue. I clean installed 314.22 WHQL, ran a FurMark benchmark with no errors and then tried Civ V again and it CtD. I then clean installed 320.49 WHQL, ran FurMark with no errors. I used Steam to verify the Civ V install and now the game works fine -- so I'm not exactly sure which step fixed that. I tried PlanetSide 2 and it still crashes to desktop after verifying the install. I'll try downloading the whole thing again and see if that helps.
