An 8350 will work just fine on a 970 chipset.
That is true. However, they won't create 990 for nothing. Lots of fixes especially on stability and overclocking plus other features that you'll gonna miss on 970. The major feature though is better support for SLI/Crossfire. If the price difference is $100 and below, why not go for 990?
