Radeon hd 6870 problem with bf3

so I've recently downloaded bf3 just to see that i cant even get 20fps out of it
that is at lowest possible settings@1600x900

specs:
CPU:Intel i7-870 @2.93GHZ
GPU:Radeon hd6870 1gb ddr5
Ram:8gb 1200mhz i think
Mobo:Gigabyte P55-Usb3
OS:windows 7 Ultimate x64
Power supply:corsair 750W
CPU cooler:Thrust master v10

should i be upgrading my GPU? if so to what?

update:i have just restarted my pc and for some reason im getting 35 fps on medium settings now,however the game then fucks up graphically.

Update your graphics drivers, would be the first thing I'd try. I ran bf3 on a 4870 or low/medium settings with 30-40 fps so there's no reason that card shouldn't do the same.

i did update it, i can get around 30 fps now but again it gets those graphical errors then bf3 crashes.
