Just like the FX 8100, you cannot buy the FX 8300 unless you can find someone who took one out of an HP computer and sells it on ebay. You will have to go with the fx6300 which is a good mid range CPU.

Yes that is correct. Most games don't use 8 cores right now anyway so the 6300 is sufficient for gaming. I have the same problem you have with one of my gaming PC's. The best cpu it will take is the fx 8100 but it can't be purchased as far as I know. I will e-mail AMD and let you know if there is some way to buy these CPU's. I'm pretty sure they are only sold to computer manufacturers like HP and Acer.

As of this posting, you can buy the 8300 on ebay, but it's $210, i'd get the 6300 (oh wait, i did) and use the extra money for some other fun upgrade.

the 6300 should do fine. most games are heavy on the gpu anyways. we'll also most likely see a shift in how games are coded (at least the console ports) which should be better optimized for 6 cores. I wouldn't say 8 cores since there would likely be 1-2 cores free for the OS and background tasks for the console.

as far as the gpu goes... what is your budget... low budget means different things to different people. some think 100 is low budget while others think 200 is... i'm going to assume for now about 150 and suggest a gtx 650 ti boost (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...)

1+

Go for the 6300 and with the extra money, invest in a better GPU!

Yes the 6300 is good for gaming and should be for a few more years. AMD got back to me and said the 8300 and 8100 are "End of life" meaning they probably aren't ever going to be for sale. Here's a good graphics card buyers guide for the month of July all different price ranges. Good luck with your build.
