Should I give my roommates the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band?

One of my roommates is moving out and taking her router with her. I bought a Netgear WNDR3400 to use once she's gone. I want to allow my two roommates to use one band while I use the other. My bedroom is in between my roommates' bedrooms and is where the router will be. I'm thinking about taking the 5GHz band for myself and giving the 2.4GHz to my roommates. My reasoning behind this is 2.4GHz bands have better distance as well as wall penetration and I don't know if their devices will support 5GHz. We all pay the same amount for internet, so I want to give them a good connection. Should I use this configuration or switch it around? If you think I should switch it, what is your reasoning? Any input would be great, thank you.

If you are most concerned about interferrence and they are not, use the 5Ghz, Hpwever as you know range is not as great.

Also if you both can't make up your minds does your router allow for equal bandwidth QoS??? If so you may want to implement that instead.
