I am planning some graphical upgrades for my PC and have reached a roadblock: one card or two? Money isn't the issue, quality is. I plan to do some serious gaming, not much in the way of video rendering or the like. I have an AMD 990FX motherboard and an AMD FX-6100 CPU. Input very much appreciated. Thank you.

GTX780. Crossfire still has problems. AMD hasn't come through with their CF fix driver yet either.

You can also eventually SLI the 780 and get a super system.

I would say that your CPU might bottleneck a high end GPU setup though.

Obviously 2 x HD 7970's will be much faster. Keep in mind that AMD is still having trouble with micro-stutter with CF. But I really don't see that being a problem with a high-end card like that. The FX-6100 might be a bit of a bottle neck for 2 of those cards, but probably not enough to be a deal breaker.

If you decide to go with 2 x HD 7970s, be sure you have a good quality PSU of adequate size. When maxed out, 2 x HD 7970s in CF will require over 500W for just the two cards alone (~42A from the +12V rail(s))

Read about what Tom's Hardware refers to as "Practical FPS" and the answer will be obvious.

The first thing you will need to do is upgrade the cpu. You are going to be around %50 usage of your gpu's if you xfire 7970's. Id suggest going to a i5 if you can switch out the mobo and gpu. Otherwise go with The FX 8350.
