How can I connect my third monitor?

I have a Nvidia GTX 550 Ti and I already have 2 monitors connected by DVI. I have the regular VGA input on the back of my computer that goes to my motherboard but when I plug in the third monitor with VGA my computer doesn't seem to detect it. Is there anything I have to do for my computer to detect the third monitor?

What is your specific model? EVGA, Asus etc. Hooking up the 3rd monitor to the onboard graphics is not worth it, you want to have all the monitors hooked up to the graphics card if you can. You should be able to do 2 dvi and one hdmi depending on your card.

It's a Zotac Nvidia GTX 550 Ti

You have a few options there, you can hook up an hdmi cable to the card for the third monitor, or use the display port. You can use an adapter to go from display port to hdmi, dvi, or vga.
