less ram showing than installed

i have just upgraded my ram from 2gb to 6 gb ........but in my computer settings it is showing 2.99gb usable....so please let me know that my computer is running on 6gb or 2.99 gb

Could you let me know what it shows in the BIOS? Also what is the OS version you are using is a 32Bit Version or 64Bit Version? Try reseating the memory modules according to the right population rules.

BTW, mentionin your mobo and CPU model will help folks who are answering your thread, so if you don't mind then let me know the same.

You have a 32bit OS according to your post which will only allow between 3-4GB as a max, Need to get a 64bit OS to use all the DRAM
