How is my configuration for a first gaming PC build?http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/BboyDfresh/saved/23Ay
I will be playing games such as BF3 and Mass Effect 3 on this machine, on high-ultra settings. My budget is around $1000, but as you saw I went about $10 over which was fine. As long as it is under $1050. Keep in mind I am in Canada. I apologize if this is in the wrong category as I am fairly new to this forum. Thanks!

I'm afraid I have to disagree with your choice of processor. The Zambezi Bulldozer line of processors was replaced with a much improved Vishera line. The FX-4100 is replaced with the FX-4300. Runs cooler and games better. The 6-core FX-6300 is better still. And the FX 8350 is the best of the bunch.

But in all honesty, for $1000 you can do much better with an Intel system.

And what parts for a Intel computer would you recommend?

The FX-6300 is a much better choice now. But you might as well leave the aftermarket cooler off the list. It isn't much better than the stock cooler. If you plan on O/C'ing the processor, I would suggest the CM 212 EVO for great cooling at low cost:

(I presume you needed a Canadian retailer)

I'll try to put together an Intel pkg when I get time, if you want. But the combo you have will game great at 1920x1080 and below.
