edited post - it's the PSU, not the CPU, making this noise
I have an ASRock x79 Xtreme 4-M with a 3930k and a GTX 560. While playing Far Cry 3 the computer shut off. I cut it back on and resumed playing (highest settings). It shut off again. When I pressed the power button it tried to start back up, but only cut on and off for a second or two at a time, and the PSU made a high-pitched and fast, but low, electric grinding noise. I flipped the power switch of the PSU off and left it alone. I tried again a few hours later, but the same thing happened.
The PSU is a SolyTech ATX 700W, model SL-8750EPS. Maybe replacing the PSU is where I should start. Or is there anything I should do before buying a new PSU? Thanks.
