What graphics card is preferred for a 2560x1440 monitor?

I'm thinking of buying a GTX 770 with the 4GB VRAM, is that enough for 1440p gaming? Roughly, how many FPS would I get on Crysis 3 on max settings?

If you want to reach 50-60fps on 1440p playing Crysis 3 then you'll need more horsepower. I'd go for the 780, I know it costs more but if you want to try to get to max settings you'll need it. Look up reviews of the 680 and you'll see that it can't max out the game, although the 780 is a step above.

So does that mean whether I do have 4GB of VRAM or not, it's not going to make any difference? Were these tests done with GTX 770 2GB or GTX 770 4GB?

Triple 760's maybe? Of course that takes a good PSU, and a motherboard that can support it, but unless you are spending a TON of money, that's most likely your best bet on a *reasonable* budget. Triple 660's beat 2 680's, so 760's would just be gravy. Figure 780 dollars for 3 x 760's, another 100+ for a PSU, and probably 140ish for a motherboard to support it.

The GTX 780 is only 10% - 15% more powerful than the GTX 770 but it's $150 more expensive, so I think it's not worth it. I'm going to be doing a lot of 3D animation and visual effects that require the extra VRAM which is the only reason why I'm getting the GTX 770 4GB. After reading what everyone said about this graphics card and the monitor resolution, I think I'll be fine. The GTX 770 is powerful enough to run crysis 3 on max settings 2560x1440 and get an avergae of 25 fps, but with the 4GB VRAM, i'm going to expect more FPS out of it.

It WILL max it out, the only problem is, it would only get me an average of 30 - 40 fps, which i'm okay with.

It can be maxed out but most gamers don't like gaming at 30fps. 60fps is preferred.
