2gb stick of ram in a 1gb slot

can you use a 2gb stick of ram in a 1gb slot?i have an asus p5ad2-e and it says i gb max and i bought 2 2 gb sticks without realyzing

I'd get the latest BIOS and as long as you have it, give it a try, have seen a number of mobos that will run more than what specs call for, I wouldn't advise buying it, but you already have it in hand....the mobo and chipset can handle 4GB so it's a possible, if both put the sticks in slots 1-3
