Hello, I am helping my friend upgrade his PC for gaming. He has a AMD Athlon II X4 635 Quad Core at 2.9 GHZ. We are looking at the AMD 7750. Will the CPU bottleneck this Video Card? Also, will this be able to run Battlefield 4? I have no experiance with AMD. I have only worked with Intel. Thanks a lot in advance,
Lambo

it shouldnt if i recall its about the same as gtx 560 gtx660 and i ran a gtx 560 back in the day with that cpu and everything was fine, except cpu heavy games, and it will be able to run battlefield 4 on medium

If battlefield 4 is anything like BF3, then it will be pretty CPU intensive also, that CPU will likely have trouble keeping up with the GPU, even though the GPU is not the best either.

As cemerian said, you will likely be able to run it at low-medium at 1600x900 res.

In that case, should I get him a better graphics card? Will that help?

what psu does he have ?
If you bump it up to a radeon 7790 or a 7850 you might have to consider your psu
Just note that nomatter what you do there will always be a bottleneck in any PC.
So some games might favor more cpu and others will want more gpu power.

What games does he like ?(edit noticed you mentioned bf4, no experience with that here)

PSU wise, I know I will need a new one there. (He has a 250 watt.) Is there a new CPU that he can get to put on this same board? He has an OEM HP PC so replacing the motherboard would be a pain in the ***.

What is your current motherboard?

What is the model number for that HP? That chip probably won't bottleneck a 7750.

From best I can tell, that board can support 95w Phenom II x4 and X6 chips. That is as far as you can go.

What if he got the 7850? Would that card be able to run well?

If he has the funds, I would go for a Phenom II x4 955, and a 7850.

He can then overclock the phenom too (make sure to have a 3rd party cooler!)

That should run BF4 fairly well.

I don't see a problem with the build except two things:

1. Is the motherboard compatible with 95W or 125W CPU? If it doesn't support 125W CPUs then the 965 BE will not work, your best bet would be to go with the 955 BE instead, and get a 3rd party cooler and overclock it even more than the 965.

2. I don't know much about the PSU and a PSU is not something you want to cheap out on --if it goes, it could take the whole system with it.

That board does not support 125w cpus. 95w max.
