Random audio loss on xp

I have a homebuilt htpc and i recently replaced the hard drive and did a clean install of windows xp sp3. Since then after about 3/4 hrs all audio stops working. If i restart the computer everything works as it should for another couple of hours. I have reinstalled all audio drivers many times. Also windows audio service seems to be working even when the problem is evident. When i start and stop windows audio service nothing happens. I would greatly appreciate any help as i do not feel like doing another clean install. Thank you

Is the audio you crave from speakers or does it per chance go through a receiver? I've had problems with HDMI audio through a receiver. If the receiver gets turned off (bedtime), there is no audio in the AM. Is that your deal, or do you just have a pair of speakers?

Its speakers. I have the hdmi going straight into a sony bravia tv.
