Toshiba Canvio External Hard drive not registering on Windows 8 after Mac conversion

I converted some video files that were stored on a Mac for my Windows 8 Acer Aspire. I put them on a Toshiba Canvio external hard drive, and now the hard drive doesn't even show up under My Computer when I plug it into the Acer(though it does show up deep in Device Manager). I guess there were a lot of points were things could have gone wrong...best guess?

to me it sounds like the canvio is formatted in MAC which cannot be read by windows natively. if the drive still works on themac then thats probably the problem.

Reformat the drive as exfat which can be ready by both Operating Systems.
