I'm looking for an affordable 'best bang for my buck' machine.

Approximate Purchase Date: Christmas

Budget Range: No more than $1000 can leave my account

System Usage from Most to Least Important: GAMING, Skype, internet

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: I need everything except peripherals

Do you need to buy OS: No (I plan to use windows xp for this. Will that be alright?)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: I prefer newegg but as long as it's all from one reliable retailer at a good price I'll buy it.

Location: Eastern coast of canada

Parts Preferences: I won't be all fanboyish for this. I need to keep costs low and I won't provide any preferences.

Overclocking: Do I have to push the cpu that hard for gaming?

SLI or Crossfire: If over budget, no.

Your Monitor Resolution: 1440x900

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I have a laptop for productivity (mac) and while I can game with it, its undesirable. I would also like to have a separation between work and play.

Yeah come back when you're ready to buy. There's no point in planning a system this far out in advance - there will be new hardware being released (SSDs, cases, the new AMD GPUs are still to be released), and things will come down in price, etc.
