when i plug my laptop into my tv with the hdmi it only shows the background of the monitor and no icons and i cant do anything but it shows the blank screen so i know its connected fine. please help
You probably have Windows set to "extend" the displays. Left-click on the desktop and choose "Screen Resolution" and set the monitor you want to use and how you want to use it/them.
