What games do u play? newer games will like the one extra core but will lower performance from the clock speed drop. When moving to something like this is matters on the games u play and if they run better off more cores or a higher clock speed. I ran bf3 on low 1080p 30fps with a phenom X4 9650 2.3Ghz and a 9800gt with 4gb ram, even tho the gpu was a 1gb card and its a quad core and the cpu used before was a 5000+ 2.6ghz i think didnt hurt the clock drop going to a quad core.

It comes down to the games u play if the cores or clock speed matter and how much u can get the cpu for, also if u can use a quad core on ur board. As the Phenom quad cores 9650/9750/9850 can be purchased on ebay or something for under $80 usually
