Asus m51ac won't recognize old Maxtor hdd (sata 1,5gb)

Hi. I've just bought a new Asus M51ac, and was hoping to use the old hdd as secondary. But the Bios doesent recognize the old hdd. It's an Maxtor diamondmax plus 9 160gb hdd sata. I've tried downloading and using Maxblast, but it doesent find any Maxtor products.

What leads you to believe the drive is still in working condition? The bios not detecting the drive is not a good thing.

Can you hear/feel the drive spin up when you power on the pc? (you didnt forget to attach the sata power cable did you?)

Can you try the drive in a different pc or external enclosure?
