I have a hp a6838f 64 bit, lighting killed my hard drive and the guy stuck some older hard drive in and now I can't install windows using my factory disks, what kind of hard drive do I need. the specs show it as: Size: 500 GB
Interface: SATA
Rotational Speed: 7200 RPM

Just wondered what other drives will work

Your can you use any drive using a SATA connection also if its an old SATA connection you can still get a new hard drive thats SATA 3 because its backwards compatible. You can go to newegg.com and shop for a hard drive for you computer. If the hard drive wont allow you to install your OS its probably because you did not format it, insert the Windows disk and when the list shows up for where Windows should be installed click the button that might say Expand, Options or More the button says one of those words and click format or you can click erase and then format. Then try to install Windows
