I got a 780i evga mobo and it doesn't work anymore and warranty is over period. Tried ram/vid card/psu and made a ticket..even evga guy said mobo is done for.

Is this a good time to upgrade to the new chipset?

Or should I just try to find a real cheap 775 mobo? So far most I've seen have been around $50-100ish dollars but aren't that great with only 2 slots for ram and/or 1 vid card slot and looking pretty cheap. Was running Dual core E8400 3.0 speed slight clocked at 3.6gigs with 460gtxhawk msi vid card and 8 gigs DDR2 I believe.

Would of liked to keep with that setup for awhile longer since I'm not a big gamer. Just play World Warcraft and surf the web pretty much, but I'm debating what to do now.

Looking around seems like might be good time to upgrade PC but not really into computers much so like some opinions. Don't want to spend money on computer right now but if it will last me at least 3-5 yrs I think it makes sense? This is what I was thinking of getting.

mobo $208

cpu $240

ram $70
This ram works for that board correct? Notice no ram says good for new gen chips unless looking at higher stuff...was guessing just wasn't updated.

With keeping my PSU since I got a 1250W Coolermaster(overkill I know but wasn't sure if I'd do 3way sli and got it on sale)...plus raptor HD and a big HD for storage.

Also was maybe thinking of just giving up the desktop for a labtop since I don't think I'd need lot of power to play WoW/Surf web/youtube...but don't want to waste other parts still working heh. So looking at 3 options...but open to more ideas.. 1) $100ish for 775 mobo, 2) $500ish futureproof/upgrade comp few years, and 3) labtop and ditch the deskop something for around $500 be nice...not sure if that's possible or not.

Thanks for help.

I would just upgrade to a new CPU motherboard and RAM. If you get another 775 you will only have to upgrade that sooner or later anyway. Laptops are great for portability but you can't really upgrade them like a PC.
