Hi Guys,

I know the 775 socket is dead now but I'm refurbishing a PC for a friend of mine that doesn't do a lot of heavy gaming but does play some of the recent titles. That being said he doesn't quite have the cash to jump to a socket 1155 CPU. He is upgrading from a Core 2 Duo E7500 with 8GB of DDR3 1333 RAM on a MSI G41 motherboard. I need some help selecting a decent CPU for him that would be faster than the one he has now without breaking the bank. Currently I'm considering the following (all 2nd hand of course)

Q6600 - $56

Q8200 - $83

Q9400 - $100

Q9450 - $125

Preferably he would like to keep the price under $100 dollars. Personally I have never owned a Core 2 Quad before so I would not know if the extra $25 would be worth it for a Q9450. I know that it does have double the L2 cache but would that make a difference in gaming? He has a 9800 GT currently but will upgrade to a 7750 in the near future. There will not be any overclocking involved but he does have a decent Coolermaster air cooler currently so I doubt that heat will be such a big problem. Also IO'm not sure if this matters but he is running a 22" monitor at full HD resolution. Additionally we are not in the US so I cannot purchase on Newegg etc.

Any help/suggestions that is provided will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Unfortunately I cant buy on eBay as I dont reside in the states and I hear most sellers wont go through the trouble of shipping internationally.

Thanks though

So there is in fact a difference in performance between the q6600 and the q9400?

From all of my research, I have found most people to claim that the difference is not that huge to warrant
the extra cash.

What may I ask is your opinion then on the matter?

The Q9400 where I stay is almost double the price of a q6600. Would the extra cash be well spent?

Thanks!
