i could of course went with 2 780s and scrimped elsewhere but it would likely make the system unbalanced. i know its also under budget by some margin. so more storage is an option. but thats it. it has enough gpu to play anything with a cpu that shouldn't bottleneck it even on a single threaded game.

Dual 780's cannot be beat under $2000. So long as the mobo holds. (It should; it is still a good board.)
Also, I disagree with HEXit. This is a GAMING PC, after all.

Diehard AMD fanboy till the end. Working man's chip manufacturer.

disagree all you want mate, its part of the fun!.... i build balanced systems for todays games, i cant use nvidia 3d so i dont need 120hz. so anything over 60fps minimum will be wasted as i play with vsync on. if im paying 1000+ for a pc i dont want image degradation cause by shearing. remember its not just the best rig, its the best for the money 2. i know my build will handle anything i throw at it.
i know yours will perfom better but at the risk of huge variations in fps (leading to less fluid gameplay) and need a massive oc to make sure it doesnt choke.

we just look at it different ways and thats the beauty of pc builds.

Running 2 cards on a single monitor is pretty pointless, when you can get really nice video card that will handle pretty much every game on the market at its highest setting, on a single monitor.

UPDATE: Links were not working before, but they should be all fixed now...Sorry about that!

Sangeet's AMD 7990 Dual GPU Devil

Note : This came as a surprise to me as just now the AMD new drivers launched which addressed the crossfire and dual GPU issues very well. So if you are the dual GPU kind of guy then definitely look for this build. It is very powerful. Much powerful than the Single 780 one. Since the crossfire is now on par with the SLI, therefore it should not be a problem if you have ever done SLI before.

Explanations:
FX-8350: AMD's flagship desktop processor (aside from the OEM only 5ghz ones that are far too overpriced anyway).
Cosair H100i: Great for cooling to get the highest stable overclocks possible.
Asus Crosshair Mobo: Designed, Engineered, and mass-produced for overclocking AMD processors.
A-Data RAM: A-Data memory is FAST. A-Data memory clocked at 2400Mhz? Even FASTER. Picked up 16 GB for those who would like the stream while gaming, or run music programs and stuff like the in the background. The extra memory will allow you to have plenty of programs open with no worries.
Samsung 840 PRO: What can I say? The 840 pro is one of the fastest non-PCI based SSD's on the market. A friend of mine purchased one with his new i7 processor, and it booted up to his desktop running windows 7 in less than 6 seconds. Also the 256gb gives lots of room for any extra programs, and a select few favorite games.
WD Black HDD: Great 1TB hard drive for plenty of room to store all your games, screenshots, fraps videos, or whatever! Pretty quick as well.
EVGA GTC 780 with ACX Cooling: EVGA did some serious work! Their new ACX cooler won 22 awards for a reason, and they went and slapped that sucker on NVIDIA's new GTX 780 chip of pure silicon power! Can't go wrong there. Why didn't I SLI one might ask.. Well, SLI would give more power to you, but then you would sacrifice things in your system like better cooling, a better case, the happiness of an SSD booting into windows for you in a matter of seconds, etc. The extra GPU power is not worth the extra things you would have to give up. I mean, sure a gaming computer is supposed to get the max frame rates possible, but is it worth giving up a way more overall comfortable experience all around, just so you get 20FPS more in the game you already have playable frame rates in?
CM HAF X Case: A case with fantastic airflow, cable management, and the ability to support water cooling for $150? I will take it!
SeaSonic Power Supply: You truly cannot go wrong with your power supply. Power supplies are arguably the most important part of your system. A great one will deliver great electric current through your whole system to keep everything running smooth and stable. A bad one will cause hardware failures, and possibly catch on fire or blow up. SeaSonic has the best parts, and I feel completely safe when putting a SeaSonic PSU into any system. It is 80 PLUS Platinum certified, which means is has some of the best efficiency so that is can keep your electric bill nice and low.
Asus DVD/CD writer Just slapped on one of the cheapest ones I could find. $16 for it. Most people nowadays in the computer world, you won't need it. However, its nice to have around at times if you have some older games that are still on CD. pick it up just for the assurance that should you need it, you have it.
