Gaming on ultra for 3+years at 1080p or 2560x1440 easy. System starts with excellent power. Great warranties on all high-end parts. Every part is warranted for 3 years or more. Great cooling performance.
I'm a huge fan of separation of disk function. Beside performance benefits, it's allowed me to update my OS drive from SATA II to SATA III affordably since the disk size is kept on the lower side for this drive. The best way to keep the system running as responsively as possible is to have the most frequently accessed data (the OS) accessible as quickly as possible. When the new-speed drives are first released, the lower capacities are most affordable. OS and system utils on SSD. Apps on one Caviar Black. Data on the other. I'd swap out the app drive with an SSD over time as prices on the higher capacity drives decreases.
The stock cooling is exceptional on both the 600 and 700 series Nvidia video cards. I also like that it doesn't blow the hot air down into the case. OC on your own. These 770s will stay cool with a custom profile in Precision X.
While the look of the Phantom 630 case doesn't suit everyone, there is no other case as flexible on the inside as this one for the price. Features include mounts for SSDs behind the motherboard tray, multiple combinations of 3.5" drive tray configurations, built-in fan controller with 10 fan connections, excellent airflow with the four included fans, tool-free drive mounts and room for anything you want to inside the case of your gaming machine. I picked one of these up and use it on my gaming machine. It's incredible and makes cable management simple with tons of space behind the motherboard tray. Really an easy case to build in. NZXT is among the couple of companies out there actually making progress with PC case design.

I see that. Darn it. At some point during my build, it got rid of the vendor selection altogether.
Update...
There's a 'Show Prices From:' radio button at the BBC code export screen. Choose 'Your Preferred Merchant List'.

Sangeet's Beast 7990 Intel Gaming Devil
Note : This came as a surprise to me as just now the AMD new drivers launched which addressed the crossfire and dual GPU issues very well. So if you are the dual GPU kind of guy then definitely look for this build. It is very powerful. Much powerful than the Single 780 one. Since the crossfire is now on par with the SLI, therefore it should not be a problem if you have ever done SLI before.

I basically did everything I could to cram a titan into a 2k build while still maintaining acceptable quality in all the other components. Its got 8gb of decently fast ram which should be more than adequate for gaming applications, a decently sized ssd for the OS and maybe your favorite game or two, decent storage for media and miscellaneous whatsits and a reliable power supply that even leaves room for a second titan if you should so choose to walk that path in the future. using entirely newegg prices its about 40 bucks over the line, BAH ITS WORTH IT!

This is an idea to use an LGA 2011 CPU and motherboard so as to take advantage of the 51.6 Gb/S memory bandwidth and 10MB cache as compared to the 25.6 Gb/S, 8MB cache of the i7-4770K and 6MB cache of the i5-4670K. The 3820 is said to be stable to 4.6GHz, and is also hyperthreading. Hyperthreading can be a detriment in games not optimized for it, but can be switched off in setup and is considered here to accommodate future games as they gradually incorporate hypertheading and multiple core capabilities. Also, along those same lines, the LGA 2011 can accommodate the Extreme series 6-core CPU's such as i7-3970X, which means a CPU upgrades could extend it's useful life as games and other applications become multi-core and generally more CPU intensive.
This concept also is made with the view that any such system is likely to be used for other applications besides games and given the CPU bandwidth and threading qualities and GPU specification of 2X GTX 770's presenting 8GB video memory and 3,072 CUDA cores, it would have excellent video editing, 3D modeling, and graphic design capabilities. If the system were used for rendering, the hyperthreading can be switched on at boot to have 8 threads as compared to an i5's maximum of 4 threads. As compared to the GTX Titan, with dual GTX 770's in SLI, the 2X 256-bit GK 104's GPU's, +400 cores, 2GB more total memory, and noticeably higher clock rates (1182MHz) than the 384-bit GK 110 GTX Titan (836MHz), the video performance should be "impressive" with some comparisons of GTX 770's in SLI bettering the Titan The comparison with the Titan is not an absolute, but I saw a figure that in Tomb Raider at Ultra FXAA, 2X GTX 760 as providing 138FPS to Titan at 122FPS, so the Titan is not unbeatable, even by SLI 760's. In Crysis 3, the Titan seems to be at the top. Still, in the scheme of things, a single Titan is still preferable and in this list, there is an option to use a Titan in place of the pair of 4GB GTX 770's, but does push the cost about $90 over the limit. However, from a cost / performance standpoint the extra $100 over the pair of GTX 770's would be a very good excuse to go over budget.
There are some astounding 3D scores on Passmark for the Titan. An i7-3820 (@4.5GHz) system with the ASRock X79 Extreme board, 16GB RAM, and GTX Titan produced a rating of 5081, CPU=11040, 2D=915, 3D=8558. By comparison, i7-3820 (@4.5GHz) system with the ASRock X79 Pro board, 16GB RAM, and GTX 780 produced a rating of 4502, CPU=10783, 2D=975, 3D=4033. The highest rated i5-4670K system uses a GTX 780 on a Gigabyte Z87-UD3H-CF, 16GB RAM, for a rating of 5390, CPU=9302, 2D=1123, 3D=8301. The fastest system of all on Passmark has an i7=3960X, ASUS Rampage IV, GTX Titan, 64GB RAM, LSI MR9265 RAID controller and a rating of 8426, CPU=17758, 2D=1160, 3D=12567, which in part (the outstandingly fast disk system is important in that result) is a demonstration of the potential of LGA 2011 CPU's and motherboards. This is also the way an LGA 2011 system could be upgraded to a CPU with the potential for the very highest performance currently possible.
Oddly, there are no results for an i5-4670K with the Titan, but I would assume the rating to be as high as the i7-3820 and the 3D score would be in the top tier. There is one i5 (-3570K) in the top 100, rating of 6866, CPU=10135, 2D=1307, 3D=5936 and that amazingly has a GTX 660ti, MSI Z77-GD65, 16Gb RAM. The scores are not in the very highest range except this system has some kind of amazing RAID 0 disk system producing a disk score of 60135. The No. 1 system (with Titan) has a disk score of 59143.
The OCZ Revodrive PCIe SSD for the OS and applications is shown in Passmark system benchmarks to be amazingly fast.

GTX 780 paired with an overclockable Haswell processor. Cooling shouldn't be an issue because of the water and a single video card. I went with only one 500gb SSD drive because people either hoard data or grossly overestimate because they were taught to years ago. Realistically if you aren't hoarding loads of movies and music 500 gb is overkill. I went with a smaller (but still enough power you should be able to SLI GTX 780s) and a HAF-X because they are a good sturdy case which should carry you through the life of the upgrades you make. Thanks for reading!
Edit: I also left a little wiggle room so you can buy some case fan options or a Blue Ray Drive depending on your needs!

An exercise in squeezing a 2011 decked out build into a budget.
Maxed memory at 64gb, running 6gb of video, reliable SSD, and quiet(er) case.
Would be interesting to assemble everything into the space of a 22r - nice powerful system while looking relatively 'normal' for a computer case.

Request to Tom's team: Please check pricing and part compatibility before shortlisting builds, and update them before putting them up for voting.
Last year there were cases of builds that Got shortlisted despite being far out of budget, unfeasible, or prone to issues (tripple CF?).
It just completely destroys the point of putting some effort into the competition.
I don't think promotional time-limited discounts should be allowed in the calculation of the total.
Thanks.

Nice SeaSonic PSU in case you want to grab another 780 down the road. The base price is $2013.40, but with the combo you have enough money to play around with the case, since that's mostly a matter of personal taste anyway.
