  1. I think you would be better off upgrading the Intel board you have to something like a core 2 duo. The anthlon is only a little bit better and the best cpu that board will take is the Anthlon x2 5000+.

  2. athlon 64 x2 @ 2.4ghz is about 25% faster than pentium d 945 @ 3.4ghz. It may sound like a decent upgrade at first, but...

Unless you are getting the parts for free, I don't think any baby step upgrade is worth it for cpu+mobo from that generation. it is simply too outdated. In current applications, you simply won't feel anything. Upgrading to even the lowest dual core cpu from current gen (i.e. IVB dual core @ 2.8) will get you performance 3 times that, so think about jumping ship to current gen stuff. Even going to Core 2 Duos will get you nearly double the performance of pentium d.
  3. do u think core 2 duo e 4400 is better for gaming then this one with Nvidia 9600gt??

It's better than the Pentium D and about the same as the Anthlon 4600.
  5. then what you recommend me to buy.but core 2 duo with an old asus motherboard(do not remember its name)cost me about 2x the Athlon 64 x2 4600+.
