Which AMD processer and video card duo is best for strategy gaming?

Well for what is best you would want triple crossfire 7970 GHz edition cards, but that would cost close to $1500 for them alone.

The FX-8350 would be best to go for on the CPU side. Its around $180 I think. As for the GPU, do you have a price limit you want to stay in? That would be easier to advise you since no matter what anyone says, unless its quad sli/crossfire its not the best.

I am limited on my money at the moment, I was thinking the HD 7770 and FX-6100 for my computer to start out at. I am only going to be playing strategy games, like simcity, kerbal space program, age of empires 2 HD and 3. I also have Starwars battlefield 1 and 2 and Battleifield 3

Well lets see, if you are really limited you may want to consider going with an APU. The a10-6800k for example. It won't do as well as the 7770 or the FX-6100 but it will perform very well. You can play all the modern games on it though at lower settings sometimes. The biggest plus to it is you can get your entire system counting CPU, GPU, Motherboard, RAM, Case, PSU, HDD, DVD Drive, Mouse, and Keyboard all for under $350. Would perform really well.

The second best idea I would recommend for you if you are planning to upgrade this in a little while would be to get a better graphics card and a worse CPU. For around $150 you could get an AMD Radeon 7850. If you want a good step up you can go for an AMD Radeon 7870 GHz Edition for close to $200. That would way outperform the 7770. After you do that I would say get an AM3+ motherboard and the absolute cheapest CPU for it which is around $50. After that wait until around December/Janruary when AMD will release the new Steamroller based CPU's and get the newest and best FX 8 core CPU probably for about $220.

Going this route you will have an alright system if a little slow at times until December but it will still be able to play all of your games without an issue, and when the time comes you will have that new CPU and it will way outperform the 7770 and FX-6100 combination by a long shot. You will save money in the long run too since you won't have as much invested in parts you will replace.

If you do not want to go either way I can search and put you together a system for around $400 and send you the links to all the stuff.

i am not going to put them on the highest settings possible.
i just want a dou that i can play my strategy games on, like starcraft 2.
so if i get the HD 7770 and the FX-6300 will that be good to start out at?
i can afford both of those

The reason I advised getting a better GPU and a worse CPU is completely with the idea upgrading in mind. When it comes to gaming as long as you have a good graphics card you will be fine to play those games. Even while using the $40 dual core Sempron processor.

Then when AMD releases its next series of CPU's that come out in about 5 months you can upgrade. The new CPU about to come out is expected to have around %20 better performance than the current top FX CPU. That is a major increase and you will not have any reason to upgrade again for a couple of years.

The reason to get the cheapest right now is to save costs. When you buy the new one, you will only be out $40+ the price of the new one. As opposed to being out $120+the price of the new one.

Again the cheapest one will still let you play all of your games and be fine. You will notice a performance boost when you upgrade, but you still will play games well over 30fps till then.

If you do not want to upgrade this way you can do it the other way, but this makes more sense to me.

Well i don't need to worry about upgrading really, I mean if I do. I will just wait a little while to get it. My question right now is AMD a good processer? --them in general-- cause my dad likes Intel and he told me that "AMD is not good with compatibly with games and they don't last long"

Sorry, but your dad is wrong on both of those points. AMD is equally good with compatibility as Intel. In terms of how long you can use them, I have AMD CPU's and cards that are 10 years old and still work.

Intel is better than AMD in terms of performance though. The big reason for this is AMD made some really bad decisions when designing their CPU's in 2010-2011 that dropped their performance below Intel. At the same time in 2011 Intel made a really amazing group of processors and created much higher and unexpected performance. This gap between their performance is slowly closing. Currently the best AMD CPU competes with the best Intel i5 CPU's, and AMD has nothing that can challenge Intel i7 CPU's.

In December when AMD releases the next series of CPU's, they are expected to be way better. A big reason for this is because if they are not way better, AMD will probably go out of business and stop making CPU's. If they get the expected 20% performance boost in performance, then the best AMD CPU will probably compete with the worst Intel CPU.

Long story short, if you want AMD then wait. I personally hope you do, becaues I want as many people to buy AMD as possible so that the company doesn't go under, but if you do not want to wait get the Intel i5-4770k which after overclocked will outperform the best current AMD CPU. It will not outperform the best AMD CPU that is coming on at the end of the year, but it will outperform the current ones.

I honestly love AMD because one they are a underdog --in the CPU wise etc. You know what I mean.-- and two they are cheaper and I think they wil be a much better company. I think if the new CPU's are as good as they should be. They can be a much better company then intel.
Three I love their video cards, and I am a total AMD fan.
Thank you :)

haha I feel you. AMD back about 2003-2008 was unstoppable, and they destroyed Intel with their processors. They have became the underdog, but I hate to see them there. I really hope they fix their problems and get back up. Their customer service is really excellent and their prices and deals are great. I by far prefer them.
I currently have an Intel i3 in my system, but at the end of the year when AMD gets their new chips out I am going to upgrade. I can't wait :bounce:

haha! I am going to go ahead and get myself a good cpu right now. And I will get one later next year when they get the news cpu's out. Is a FX-6300 and a HD 7770 graphics card, a good duo for me to start out?

So wait, I am a little confused now. You dropped the CPU down to the 6300 but you still aren't going for the better GPU?

Also you are paying a crazy amount for your PC case. I mean if you like it that much then go ahead, but honestly I almost felt bad paying $70 for mine and it is really cool and looks great.
