My monitor won't display anything.

I just got a new cabinet and a new graphics card and some tech friend helped me switch all the parts. The problem I had with my previous set-up was that the monitor sometimes wouldn't display image when I booted the computer. It would take 4-10 times of switching on and off the computer before I would finally get an image. When it booted up the fans started blowing crazy and then they went silent, this is how I knew it was turning on.
With my new set-up the monitor doesn't display anything at all.

Q: I haven't installed drivers for the new graphics card, is it possible to install it without the monitor?
Q: I do have a POST on my mobo and it sometimes shows 4e and 7f (if I press f1 it shows FF, which is odd because my monitor won't display). What does this mean?
Q: Could a pirated version of Windows cause these problems?
Q: Could either a hardware/software problem cause this?

INFO:
I bought my previous set-up from a friend and the only thing that changed when I got it from him is the OS. He owned a legit copy of Windows 7 Ultimate which he had to remove and instead installed a pirated one. I haven't bought a copy of windows yet. I've used the old set-up for a month without any software issues but I do think this can be the problem.

Please ask more and please be gentle.
Any ideas will help a lot.
