Hi guys,

I'm making a new pc and I was looking for a video card in the $200 range. The article for July lists the gtx 660 at 190ish as the best deal but I found a 7950 at $180 AR.

I guess they're dropping prices to make room for the new AMD cards? Should I pull the trigger on this videocard or should I wait for prices to drop even further? Also does anyone like/hate MSI cards? Thanks.

MSI is a pretty good manufacturer, and this is a good price... However, 38% of the reviews give it 1 star. People seem to have problems with the cooler. It is a little bit of a risk to go with this card, but it might pay off... What resolution are you playing at?

Right now I'm using an old LCD monitor which is 1280x1024. I'm planning to get a 1080p in the near future.

Don't wait for amd's 9000 series cards. You really don't need to. My budget recommendation for gaming is msi's gtx 760 2gb version. Also, Msi will be coming out with a new oced edition called hawk. Either of the aforementioned cards will run 1080p on high-ultra settings smoothly in pretty much all cases. If you are welling to bump up your budget to 300-350 dollars, then I'd recommend sapphires 7970 w/ boost. It's been on sale lately or around that price, and is a beast at 1080p. (I have one and un everything on ultra at1080p) sorry I can't post links, I'm on my mobile.

I think the 7950 should last me a couple years anyway. Aren't new cards kinda expensive at release?

Yes, by the card NOW! That's a great price, the card is an outstanding overclocker, and delivers great performance on all 1080p games I've played on ultra (I have the card myself). Get it now!
Edit: It's also toms hardware recommended: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7970-over...
