Hey everyome; I've become tired of working on a laptop and I'm getting ready to build a desktop for work (this is not my very first build by a long shot, but it will be the first time building a desktop for work).

Notes: I haven't included an OS yet, and I plan to run at least 3 monitors (hopefully 5). I already have a case, and I'm going to use an old GTX 460 that I have for the GPU.

I often have 10 internet pages open, 5+ excel spreadsheets, multiple PDF's, a word document, google earth in satellite view, and several windows explorer folders among other things.

I'm not going to be doing any intense video computations or anything of that sort; I just have a lot of applications and multiple windows open.

I'm trying to keep the build under $1000, and just seeking comments on the build so far.

All these items are from newegg.
------------------------------------------

MotherBoard: MSI 970A-G46 = $74.99

Power Supply: CORSAIR Builder Series CX500 = $59.99

CPU: AMD FX-8320 = $159.99

SSD Storage: Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe MKNSSDCR240GB = $159.99

HD Storage: TOSHIBA DT01ACA300 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive = $129.99

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) Model F3-14900CL10D-16GBXL = $229.98

Subtotal: $814.93

Any comments on this general work desktop build are appreciated.

Honestly, I would tone down the memory and get high-quality parts (1TB High quality HDD, better SSD, etc), 16GB should fare well. Here is an overall more solid build for under $1000, with an optional new case, what is your current? There is no video card around that supports 5 monitors as of now IIRC.

My current case is here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811204039

I know it's not anywhere near ideal, but I used it for a gaming case for over a year with managable temperatures (gaming pc has been moved to HAF X-RC942-KKN1 case), and I was hoping to re-use it now: I think I will do some sawing and add an extra fan on each side to increase cooling.

Yeah; I figured the ram is a bit much, but I don't want to experience lag for a while. I'll check out those builds you posted.

Thanks.

That case is quite nice for an HTPC, but for a high-load office PC or gaming rig  Both of the builds linked have an optional HAF XM (HAF X's little brother) that will be matching and useful. Here is the updated (matching) Intel rig http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1quQG
