In-game recording Hard Drive

Hi guys.

I play World of Warcraft mostly. I also have a youTube account which I make videos for. Now when I record with Dxtory I get frame drop spikes, it's at a consistently good fps but the frame drop spikes are annoying especially as I want my videos at a high quality.

Now I've been told that an external HDD will help a lot which the in-game recordings will go straight to.

I need recommendations on good but budget hard drive for in-game recording.

If you are on a pc I would just install a second internal drive.

WD 1TB Blue for $70 seems to be the sweet spot for capacity * performance. (the 500gb is only $10 cheaper for comparison)

if you are on a laptop, which drive interfaces do you have available?
usb2, usb3, esata, firewire ?
