I recently purchased a 27 inch dell u2711 monitor. I am very disappointed at the moment. For some reason, at the resolution 2560x1440 (which says recommended next to it in the screen resolution in properties of win7), I cannot read the text. The text is pixelated, horribly small and multicolored. The screen isn't usable until I come down to 1920 x 1080 and even then the resolution isn't sharp (but I can read text better).

I am using a home built computer, running windows 7 64 bit version. The computer has a AMD and this is the AMD stuff inside (ATI Radeon HD 4200 - http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/ati-rad...). This says it supports resolution up to or 2560x1600 (dual-link DVI).

Other people seem to have issue when they were using a single link cable - I am using the dual link DVI cable that came with the dell monitor. Not sure how to resolve this or where the issue is. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Honestly, it would be a much better idea to invest in updating your rig than to get a monitor that your Radeon 4200 can't really handle.

Is that really it? Even though it says it supports it - it doesn't. What do I need in terms of specs?

Also not sure what happened - after I switched other resolutions - the 1920 x 1080 now has same problem as the 2560x1440 resolution and I am not on even a worse resolution. this makes me wonder if there is a setting or driver issue.

Just get a decent discrete GPU like the HD 6670 for $40-50,assuming you're not really planning on gaming of course.

No gaming. I primarily use the computer for photography. Will just adding the graphics card solve the issue and can I just add this to the current setup or do I need anything else?

In display settings, check how fast is the refresh rate is set to. (try playing around with that)
Also make sure you have the latest drivers.

Only 2 options i get there are 59 or 60 hz. Have tried both, doesn't seem to do anything.

The newest one I could find on dell's site says released in 2013, but shows up as 2012 driver - that's the newest one I can find.
