I built this rig when I was using my media PC for gaming, but I've returned to the desk and found my editing rig it to be usable but I'm sure my cheap video card is holding me back. Specs:
Asus KCMA-D8 Server mobo (has 2 PCIe 16x slots
16GB DDR3
2x Opteron 4130 CPUs (quad core, 2.6ghz each)
Current GPU is nVidia 460ti or some junk
Intel 320 SSD boot
Running games off old slow junk HD.

Of course load times are and will stay bad but I'm playing Saints Row 3 at 720p and low settings to get barely acceptable framerates.

Is it work investing $200-$300 in a new GPU for the system or is my single core speed so slow it would be a waste? Looking for 1080p at high settings on current games at 60 fps. But aren't we all?

I would also like dual HDMI outs but that seems hard to find. I have 2 monitors with DVI and HDMI inputs and somehow I think they might both go to sleep in the same way if I have the same cables connecting them. After converters, one refuses to sleep.

Hi,

Of course it is good to upgrade! Your GPU is old and is getting worse every day due to thecnology progress.
You said that you had 300$ to spend. So... I would reccomend you to get a MSI Gaming GTX760 2GB. This is a great card for the money you are willing to spend. Also, it is the latest card from NVidia and will be updated for 2-3 years. It can max most games (except Crysis 3 and some others...) at 1080p and still get 60-70 FPS! Amazon is selling it for 260$. However it has only 1 HDMI port.

Hope I helped,
