Internet connection cuts in and out.

I have a new router which is a cable modem/wifi router that I got from mediacom today and the internet keeps on cutting in and out. I'm curious if connecting a more powerful router to the previous wifi router which broadcasts signal is beneficial. If not what else can i do to improve the performance of my CGN2-RES wifi cable router. Its very frustrating having it cut in and out.

This can happen if the computer is set to a fixed channel on which to receive the signal from the router and the router is broadcasting on a roaming basis. Start with the wireless adapter settings in the PC to check which channel it's on and change it to roaming if it's set to a particular channel between 1 and 13.
